The Little Engine That Just Couldn't...

Farewell my friend...

It's a sad day in Springfield as news broke earlier that UA will be closing its doors indefinitely at the end of this school year. This was an event that we had heard might happen, but never imagined that it would occur so soon.

I'll keep my theories/opinions to myself at this time, allowing for all UA students and faculty, past and present, to post their fondest memories and best wishes for the UA community.

I am beyond words at this point...that Ursuline Academy will only remain in our memories is devastating to me.

This news was like getting punched in the stomach! I can honestly say that if someone didn't actually GO to Ursuline, they will never understand the bittersweet feeling we are all feeling right now. I feel blessed to have been a part of something so beautiful, and all we can do now is be grateful for this blessing and try to keep the memory alive in our hearts.

Ursuline was the best school I have ever visited. It is a disgrace that the school will be closed. Ursuline Academy is an important part of Springfield, at least for me. Everytime I am in the mid west I visited my School...

I'm completely dumbfounded. I really don't know what to say. I have relatives that went to UA back in the late 50s. Kind of family tradition. I'm going to miss it even though I haven't been back since graduation except for my 2 bothers' graduations. ;-(

After reading the information available in the press, it doesn't appear that Ursuline is in the dire financial straits that SCI/Benedictine claims, nor has Urusline been allowed take all measures to correct the deficit (whatever the real figure is). However Ursuline's property would be quite valuable to a SCI/Benedictine expansion...(hmmmm)

In any case, you don't have to sit quitely and take it. If you are upset about this, write a letter to the President, Vice President, Chair & Board of Directors of SCI/Benedicitine stating that everything has not been done to keep Ursuline viable and urge them to reverse their decision.
